Bahrain protests cause GP2 travel disruption

The current political unrest in Bahrain has not left the GP2 community untouched, with numerous drivers and team personnel heading towards the Sakhir circuit this week for Rounds 3 and 4 of the current Asia Series campaign.

After Tunisia and Egypt, Bahrain is the latest country to witness a selection of protests in the Arab world, as witnessed by Giedo van der Garde.

'It was really, really (violent) yesterday,' the Dutch Addax driver comment via his personal Twitter feed. 'There were many people on their feet protesting and we couldnt leave the hotel. Hopefully it will calm down but, in any case, there are police everywhere. We'll wait'

After GP2 Asia, Formula 1 tests will commence in Bahrain for four days from Thursday 3 March, with the opening round of the Formula 1 World Championship following just a week later.
