Ms Holmes arrived at the showing wearing a classic MaxMara camel coat, nonchalantly tossed off one shoulder to reveal a golden suntan, and a slinky brown silk one-shouldered jumpsuit beneath. "It's so soft and comfortable. I love their clothes," she said.
Looking relaxed and glowing with health, she appeared to be enjoying a few days away from the constant scrutiny of the American press and speculation about her private life and marriage to Tom Cruise.
Ms Holmes went backstage before the fashion show where she was introduced to MaxMara's British designer, Ian Griffiths, a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, and the brand's creative director, Laura Lusardi.
Gucci autumn/winter 2011 at Milan Fashion Week
Ms Holmes has been selected as the 2011 Women in Film MaxMara "Face of the Future"' an award given annually to recognise talent, style, and the recipient's contribution to the community at large. Previous recipients include Zoe Saldana, Emily Blunt, and Elizabeth Banks. The award will be presented at a gala in Beverly Hills in June.
Ms Holmes has two films currently in production, The Son of No One and Jack and Jill , and will also be starring as Jackie Kennedy in a new US television series, The Kennedys . She said she was hoping to be able to go shopping for clothes for daughter Suri, who turns five in April, and is regarded as one of the best-dressed celebrity children in the world. "There's always time to squeeze in a bit of shopping," she said.

The MaxMara collection for autumn/winter 2011 was designed for the cool, modern woman and took inspiration from classic British wardrobe staples, such as the parka, the duffle coat, and the biker jacket, updated in pastel-toned alpaca, mohair, neoprene-effect leather, camel, and cashmere. Strapless dresses were shown in a glittering,sequin-embellished tartan, with kilt buckles at the sides, and cable sweaters were knitted in lam�. For evening, the collection included fringed, blanket-check ball gowns, in grey and cream, and strapless jumpsuits, with ultra-wide pleated trousers, split up the sides.
